MEAC Hoops Recap: Unpredictable and Predictable

Norfolk, Va. -- The 2013 MEAC Tournament can be described in two words: PREDICTABLE AND UNPREDICTABLE

There were many on both sides of the isle at the SCOPE Arena in Norfolk and here are some of them.

Predictable

The Hampton Lady Pirates won their fourth consecutive MEAC Tournament Championship jumping out early on rival Howard before ultimately taking a 59-38 win.

They're the first MEAC squad to do that since Howard from 1987-90. Oh by the way, they finished conference play undefeated as well.

MEAC Men's Tournament Preview

NORTH CAROLINA -- Much like the other conference made up entirely of HBCUs, the SWAC, the MEAC is generally viewed as one of the weaker conferences in Division I.

As such, the winner of its conference tournament is usually rewarded with a low seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Part of this perception is based off on the fact that often the winner of the conference tournament is often not the best team in the conference, usually resulting in a weak showing and a quick exit out of the Big Dance.

HBCU Men's Division II Tournament Roundup: CIAA trio and Benedict headed to South Region;

NEW HAVEN, Ct. (BP) -- Despite their loss to Bowie State in last week's CIAA men's basketball final, many within the Livingstone College community and the league felt that the Blue Bears (22-6) were worthy of an NCAA playoff bid.

Sunday night, it became a historic reality.

James Stinton's team earned their first ever bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship as announced by the NCAA Division II basketball committee. The Blue Bears earned the fifth seed in the Atlantic Region after finishing a history-setting season and earning the school’s first CIAA Southern Division championship.
